1937, August 2nd
Here I am, breathing again in this chaos. In the way to school we can notice armies rushing through, I can see air forces rallying around the sky everyday. I thought this was ridiculous, I am also one of the citizen of United States. News only told us that Japan is trying to take over Asia and China is in war with Japan. I like my country, however, our country is trying to resist Japan from dominating over Asia. I think it will be a right decision, the war between China will last long enough to make a lot of sacrifices of people. We must resist Japan for every each countries' peace and especially our nation's peace. I don't know exactly which country is being the place of war, but I know that there are people dying out and not recognized right now. I signed up to go in to the army, my father is in the air force. My brother Michael Klein also signed up to go in to the army with me this day. We don't know when we will go out in the real field, we were trained right away from the basics. My brother and I could see a lot of other young Americans and also a lot of citizen armies being created that day. We were always ready for the emergency and any war, however, I knew that this will risk my life and my nation. I was ready to die but I couldn't shake off the fear of dying that easily. This day I think of my mother again, she always told me that I am special, I could do anything, and I am a important person. I am going to protect my country for me and my family and our people.

1941, December 7th
It was tragic. The attack on Pearl Harbor actually brought our country into the war. Me and Michael were of course, sent into that area. It was the first time to shoot the gun and kill people in a real war for both of us. We were separated in the parts we were taking. Many people died and I just thought that I had to live. After the army retreated after bombing and killing, I rushed back to the base and tried to find my brother. The only thing that I could find was his dog tag. We were fully trained to fight as a soldier, that was what I thought until Michael's death. From last year, Japan rapidly conquered a lot of nations and attacked our country including the European possessions in the Pacific Ocean. I saw a lot of people dying every time I was sent to the battlefield.
Japan was planning to seize European colonies in Asia to create a large defensive perimeter stretching into the Central Pacific. We had to resist it or they will be free to exploit the resources of Southeast Asia while exhausting the overstretched Allies by fighting a defensive war. Except for this war, the allied nations and other countries in the Southeast Asia and Central Pacific was attacked. Malaysia and Thailand was invaded by Japanese and also there war in Hong Kong too. All the news coming in and seeming the war is getting global made me nervous and worried. I sleep again with the heavy responsibility as a soldier and my country.

1942 May 8th
A year after Michael's death, Japan tried to take control of the Australian Territory of New Guinea as well as other locations in the South Pacific and tried to isolate Australia and New Zealand from our country and cut the connection of alliance. I heard my father was in the war (Battle of the Coral Sea) because the air-forces of our country and Australia fought with the Imperial Japanese navy. The war seemed to end successfully and my father returned safely. 2 years after this, the air forces got a mission to bomb Tokyo, my father also was in this mission. He told me that night, he saw a woman with 3 kids trying to hide away from the American pilots. He ignored it but as he tried to fly over them, he noticed one of the kid getting shot with the machine gun armed on the jet.
Because of the bombing, Japan sent military forces to occupy the Aleutian islands in Alaska. They came to seize Midway Atoll and lure our carriers into battle to be eliminated. The army I was in, lead by general Archibald V. Arnold, was sent into this battlefield. I thought it would end with victory. It would be a lot faster and easier than other wars because the climates and territories were harder for Japanese to settle in and the Japanese forces were pretty smaller in number comparing to our navy and armies. Also, because we have broken the Japanese naval codes and we knew what Japan was up to, I thought it would end with not much losses from us. However, after witnessing 3 people dying right in front of me, I was shocked. This war (Aleutian Islands Campaign) was overshadowed by another major war going on(Guadalcanal Campaign) and it wasn't a significant war...but this took away the only soldiers that I was with the whole time during the war until that day. I felt that this entire war needs to end now and there must be no loss... no more.

1945 August 4th
Yesterday, My father was sent in the mission to bomb Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I bet that it would have killed a lot of people. The army says about 30 thousand people had been dead or missing by the bombing. The bomb poured down and many people died, even kids and women. Between these two bombings, the soviets invaded Japanese-held Manchuria, and quickly defeated the Kwantung army- the primary Japanese fighting force. I heard that our allied country will be keep on attacking and putting pressure on Japan, I think the war would end soon. However, by this war, I just have seen more than a million die with my eyes and heard with my ears. It is hopefully going to end soon and Japan will surrender in this pace. I just wanted the war to end with the least amount of damage on our country and the least amount of people dying or getting injured. I think the atomic bomb was the major event that had turned the pace to our allied forces but also the major event that has ripped my heart up. I wish my father and I survive through this moment and this war, I want to go back to the daily life I went to school with my brother on the school bus. As this atomic bombing ended up with killing a amount of people, it has to worth the value of that many lives. It have to end probably a week or two later.
